Brown spots, sun spots, and freckles can all detract from your appearance and make you look older than you are. Freckles are also typically a sun of sun damage, and you should be sure to get an annual skin check by your dermatologist. Fortunately, these lesions can often be effectively treated with laser.

What is the Revlite laser?

The Revlite is a Q-switched laser at either the 1064 nm or 532 nm wavelength. It delivers laser energy over the interval of a nanosecond, creating a very concentrated burst of energy. This energy can shatter pigment.

What is the Revlite laser used for?

The Revlite Q-switched laser is often used for tattoo removal. The concentrated energy can shatter tattoo pigment. But the Revlite, using the 532 nm setting, is also used to treat various brown spots. It is a great tool for removing freckles, lentigines, and flat seborrheic keratoses.

The Revlite laser can also be used for “laser toning”, where it is used to stimulate production of collagen, helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The Revlite laser at the 1064 nm wavelegnth is also great for opening clogged pores and blackheads in acne.

Does the Revlite laser hurt for treating freckles and sunspots?

The Revlite is generally well-tolerated. For small areas we use chilled air to provide some local numbing. For larger areas, topical numbing is applied 60 minutes before the procedure.

Is the Revlite laser safe?

The Revlite laser at the 532 nm should not be used on dark skin or tan skin. When used by an experienced dermatologist, the Revlite laser is a safe and effective tool. However, like any medical procedure there are always risks. Your dermatologist will discuss this with you before your procedure.

How many laser treatments will I need?

To treat freckles and sunspots with the Revlite laser, usually one or two treatments are required. For laser toning, four to six treatments are required.

What can I expect after the treatment?

When treating freckles or sunspots with the Revlite, you can expect some redness around the treated lesion. The treated lesion will often darken, and then scab off in a few days. A bit of vaseline or aquaphor is all that is usually required for aftercare. Sun protection or avoidance should be practiced as well.

For laser toning, a mild rendness is expected. No specific aftercare is required.

Can I have laser therapy in combination with fillers or Botox?

Laser can be combined with other treatment modalities, such as Botox and fillers.

I have both brown and red spots, does the Revlite work on both?

The Revlite will not treat red marks or blood vessels. For red marks, you can combine the Revlite treatment with the V-beam laser.

Can the Revlite Q-switched laser be used on birth marks?

Some birth marks can be treated with the Revlite Q-switched laser, including congenital melanocytic nevi and cafe au lait patches.

Can I use the Revlite laser and also have ablative laser resurfacing?

We often do fractional ablative laser resurfacing with the DEKA SmartXide DOT, and then follow that up with Revlite 532nm treatments for any residual brown spots.
