Red Acne Scars

On light skin, recent acne scars will often be red . This is sometimes referred to as erythema. Redness from acne scars is usually treated with the V-Beam pulsed dye laser. These marks may also fade over time.

Hyperpigmented Acne Scars

On darker skin types, acne will often result in hyperpigmented marks, sometimes referred to as postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. These marks can be treated with a combination of lightening agents, chemical peels, and laser, usually the Q-switched Nd:YAG at low energy levels. Consistent sun protection is very important as well.

Atrophic Acne Scars

Acne scars will often be depressed or atrophic. Sometimes they are called “ice pick” scars, rolling scars and box car scars. These scars are difficult to treat, but improvement is often possible with multiple treatments. These types of scars are treated with a combination of fractional ablative CO2 laser, such as the DEKA SmartXide DOT laser, Autologous-derived Growth Factors, and dermal fillers.
