Wound Care Treatments

At the Wound Care Center at SOMA Skin & Laser, we offer a range of advanced treatments to accelerate the healing process for chronic wounds. Our individualized approach ensures that each patient receives the most effective care for their specific condition. Below are some of the state-of-the-art treatments we provide:

Debridement

Debridement involves the removal of dead or infected tissue to promote the growth of healthy tissue. This is essential for wound healing, as it reduces infection risk and improves the wound’s ability to heal properly. We offer sharp debridement, autolytic debridement, and enzymatic debridement based on each patient’s wound type.

Compression Therapy

Compression therapy is used to treat venous ulcers and swelling in the legs. It improves blood flow and reduces swelling, helping ulcers heal faster. Our specialists use custom compression bandages and garments tailored to the patient’s specific needs.

Bioengineered Skin Substitutes

For chronic or large wounds, bioengineered skin substitutes are used to stimulate healing. These advanced skin grafts, often created from human cells, act as a scaffold to promote new tissue growth and protect the wound from infection. Apligraf® and Dermagraft® are examples of bioengineered products we use to treat challenging wounds.

Growth Factor Therapy

Growth factor therapy involves applying naturally occurring substances that promote cell growth and tissue repair directly to the wound. This treatment is especially effective for chronic ulcers and non-healing surgical wounds. Growth factors stimulate the body’s healing process and help close difficult wounds faster.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Also known as vacuum-assisted wound closure, NPWT uses a sealed dressing and controlled suction to remove excess fluids from the wound. This therapy reduces swelling, promotes blood flow, and accelerates healing. It is highly effective for larger wounds or those complicated by infection.

Advanced Wound Dressings

We use a variety of specialized wound dressings that support healing by keeping the wound moist, preventing infection, and managing drainage. Foam dressings, hydrocolloid dressings, and silver-impregnated dressings are some of the options available, customized to the wound’s specific needs.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy can stimulate tissue repair and reduce inflammation, making it an excellent option for certain chronic wounds. This non-invasive treatment enhances circulation and encourages new tissue growth, speeding up healing for diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, and other non-healing wounds.

Offloading Devices

For patients with diabetic foot ulcers or pressure sores, offloading is essential to prevent further damage and allow healing. We coordinate with your podiatrist to provide customized footwear, braces, and cushions that relieve pressure on the wound area, giving it the chance to heal without further irritation.

Topical Antimicrobials and Antibiotics

To combat infection and promote healing, we use a variety of topical antimicrobial agents and antibiotics. These medications are applied directly to the wound to prevent bacterial growth and protect the healing tissue.
