Skin Tag Removal

What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is a small benign tumor that forms primarily in areas of skin friction, such as the neck folds, underarms, and groin, but other areas, such as the eyelid, can be affected as well. Most skin tags are small, just 1-2 mm, but sometimes they can achieve greater size, in which case they are usually called fibroepithelial polyps, abbreviated as FEP.

How are skin tags removed?

If a skin tag becomes a medical problem, usually by causing itching, irritation or bleeding, it can be removed. Skin tags can also be removed for cosmetic reasons. There are a number of methods used to remove skin tags, including cauterization, scissor removal, excision (for larger fibroepithelial polyps) and cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen. Your dermatologist will determine which method of skin tag removal is best for you.
